Clinical Research Unit
The Clinical Research Unit (CRU) at the IHV supports clinical trials for complex infectious diseases. The research unit focuses on treating and preventing viral diseases, such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV, and emerging viruses like SARS-CoV-2, but also completes research on healthy volunteers. The CRU conducts industry-sponsored research studies, as well as investigator-initiated studies.
The CRU is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse coordinators, research specialists and coordinators, a regulatory specialist, a biostatistician, a pharmacist, a research laboratory supervisor, and a phlebotomist, who help organize and implement the clinical trials. The research unit is on the first floor of the IHV with a six-room medical research suite that includes a waiting area, phlebotomy suite, negative pressure rooms, and easy access to the Division’s laboratories on the second and fifth floors of the IHV building. The CRU collaborates with other UMB researchers providing staff, space, and resources to support their clinical research.
