Antimicrobial Stewardship

graphic of a hand holding a bunch of different microbesAntimicrobial Stewardship is a multidisciplinary effort to investigate and optimize antibiotic prescriptions with the goal to improve patient outcomes both in and out of the hospital and limit unintended consequences, such as C. difficile infection and antibiotic resistance.

The Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Outcomes Team within the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS ASCOT) and the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program within the Veteran’s Affairs Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS ASP) include IHV Division faculty, and pharmacy and nursing colleagues, who are dedicated to this work.
