Graduate Education
Students in IHV participate in one of the five Ph.D. tracts at the UM School of Medicine’s Graduate Program in Life Sciences:

Through the Fogarty Epidemiology Research Training for Public Health Impact Program (Epi-Nigeria), UMB offers either an online mentored distance-learning Master of Science in Health Sciences or a PhD in epidemiology with distance and Baltimore-based components. Clinical Training
UMB/Maryland
The Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program at the University of Maryland is designed to train fellows to be leaders in the treatment and research of infectious diseases. The two-year program accepts seven fellows each year.
In the Ciheb Workforce Development program, staff have an opportunity to take coursework at the UMB Graduate School to develop professionally, work towards degree, or earn a Certificate in Clinical Research. The IHV is a site for the MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center (AETC), which offers an education and clinical training, as well as consultation services for area healthcare providers on HIV care, treatment, and prevention. Please contact Abby Plusen for more information.
International
The Maeve Kennedy McKean Global Public Health Fellowship trainee works with the Center for International Health, Education, and Biosecurity team on efforts to end the HIV epidemic in Africa.
The chronic, complicated nature of HIV/AIDS requires that each country possess an adequate, local base of expertise and high technical capacity. The International Preceptorship in HIV and Infectious Diseases (IPHID) program was developed to provide country-level practitioners, technical leaders, and policy makers with rapid, high-level, advanced training in comprehensive management of HIV and related illnesses.
In the Global Health Scholars rotation program, Ciheb works with the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia to provide UMB students, residents, and fellows with an interest in global health an opportunity for one-month of clinical experience in tropical infectious diseases in a resource-limited setting.
